"Probing host/pathogen interactions with Vaccinia virus"
Intracellular pathogens,
such as viruses, are far more than a gspanner in the worksh; upon infection of
their hosts, viruses do not simply gum-up cellular machinery, but cunningly
subvert cellular processes to facilitate their own replication and spread. Dr. Timothy P Newsome is focusing on using
viral pathogens to better our understanding of the host-pathogen interface, not
only to advance our knowledge of fundamental cell biology, but also to identify
novel molecular targets that can be used to inhibit virus replication.
